The 2022 pay deal for support staff in schools that follow the National Joint Council (NJC) terms and conditions for support staff was that all pay points would increase by £1925 per annum. It was also agreed that an extra day’s annual leave would be applied to all grades of staff with effect from 1st April 2023. This would be pro-rated for part-time and part-year employees.

For the 2023 pay award, the National Employers offered an increase of £1925 on each pay point. However, on 8th March 2023, it was announced that the unions rejected this and sought ‘significant improvement’ to the offer received.

UNISON has announced a ballot for industrial action, whilst GMB and Unite members will be consulted based on a recommendation that the offer be rejected. The UNISON ballot of members is expected to take place during mid/late May.
