Schools should be aware of several key updates to statutory guidance ahead of the new academic year. Changes to Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSiE) 2025 will come into force this September. There are minor changes this year including aligning the document to amended Virtual School Head role to those published earlier this year, revised terminology around SEND, and refreshed links in the safer recruitment section.

Online safety guidance now covers misinformation and conspiracy theories, and new links have been added to support, AI use and meeting the cyber security standards for schools. DSL’s are reminded that they can use the DfE’s ‘plan technology for your school service’ to self-assess against the filtering and monitoring standards, then receive customised recommendations on how address any gaps in meeting these

Updates also reflect recent changes to alternative provision guidance. Further changes may be included when the final document is published on 1st September 2025 following the publication of the revised RSHE curriculum guidance on 15th July, effective September 2026. Schools are encouraged to review these updates and prepare accordingly.
