The National Education Union (NEU) announced that its members have overwhelmingly rejected the 2023 pay offer and would be holding further strikes.

The pay offer included a £1,000 one-off payment for teachers this current academic year and an average consolidated pay rise of 4.3% for 2023/24, with starting salaries to rise to £30,000 from September along with reforms to teachers’ workloads and conditions. Voting turnout was 66% and 98% of those who voted turned down the pay offer.  The NEU criticised the pay offer as it is not fully funded.

Three other unios the NASUWT, ASCL and the NAHT are also balloting their members on the pay offer.
